You can imagine our state of spirit, now with 4 guys hitting it hard, the budget filled up until floating and a lot of dust flying around !! We were going sky high and full power; the dream goes on, no matter what !! Calle was going into the jungle, very deep inside time: find a keel my man ! A monstrous piece of Ipé (Green heart) 20m long 60 x 30 cm….. It took him 3 months to find, but he found it ! Rolling it on sticks thru the dense jungle but being loaded on boat for it trip to STM, the boat tipped over, haha – too big !! For strength reasons we cut it longitudinal instead of halfway its length and each piece on one side, the boat was able to carry it. Back on our little beach, we couldn´t believe our eyes: the keel arrived, oh Gloria !! PIC After, with all frames on the keel, the inner keel and the immense bow and stern posts, it really started to look like a boat. Her shape was crazy and many nights we hang our hammocks between the ribs and slept like babies… the tarantulas and snakes kept away by the fire, horse shit on the fire against the bugs, we literally dreamt the dream, inside her. Oh… life is good, life is fantastic !!

To install the stern post, we had to cut a branch of the huge manga tree. Oh oh, it seemed to be a “holy tree”, apparently with a spirit trapped in it. You can´t just cut it ! Shit, now what ?? We can´t move the boat, nor the tree…. Well, we had to ask permission and perform a ritual to get approval. We got it alright and we think that´s why the Tocorimé has 2 spirits onboard; one of her own and the guy from the tree !

The bow held by its own weight; just by the handmade connection – what a incredible piece of art, what a craftsmanship ! You don´t see that anymore, nowhere. PIC With the ribs done, the stern and stem nicely fitted, the planking could begin. Nice long and thick planks Valniemee was able to get for us; few vessels can tip that. But how those guys installed the planks…. Good gracious – that is another unmatched hallucinating experience: no magical calculations, no complicated measuring: start a fire and just bending and curving planks on the eye !! Now their hundreds of year experience was a magical thing to watch, muito parabens guys; hats off !! PIC With the planks on the go, the deck beams could start and slowly we could start thinking of the interior of the boat, Joho; another milestone ! Bit by bit she came alive, every time her beauty more and more visible…. guys what a splendid idea was this !!

Lots of fun, Captain David was a true Tocorimé lover and almost every Monday morning he came around to charge his battery and bees session. Many times he went only home on Tuesday afternoon….

Lots of friends got lost on the Tapajos as well. Packed with goodies, always party time; Wim, Bettine, Ritchie, Otto ? and who else packed with cheese, hagelslag, presents for the carpenters, handtools van Jan and what allemaal nog meer ??

And with all the personal joy, the biggest joy was the building progress – we could start planning a date for the launching, Oh Mighty Mighty, Oh Gloria, Oh Halleluja !!
